Engineering Inspection Cover

Most machines are dangerous if misused or not maintained correctly. If you have any lifting or pressurised equipment at your premises you, by law, should ensure that it is safe for your employees to use.

To arrange inspection cover we will require a list of your current plant and machinery so premium can be calculated. Inspections are carried on a yearly basis, although some equipment may require more regular check ups.

There are three regulations governing inspection. These are:

- Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER)

Lifting equipment includes any equipment used at work for lifting or lowering loads, including attachments used for anchoring, fixing or supporting. The definition also includes lifting accessories such as chains, slings, eyebolts etc

The regulations cover a wide range of equipment including, cranes, forklift trucks, lifts, hoists, mobile elevating work platforms and vehicle inspection platform hoists.

- Pressure System Safety Regulations (2000) PSSR

This covers: Steam Boilers, Autoclaves, Steam Calorfiers, Coffee machines with steam generators, Pressure Vessels, Air Receivers etc. Basically any equipment with a substantial pressure build up.

- Provision Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER)

The PUWER regulation requires all equipment provided by the employer for use at work is suitable for the intended use, safe for use, maintained in a safe condition and in certain circumstances, inspected to ensure this remains the case; It also aims to ensure that only by people who have received adequate information, instruction and training. Equipment should also be accompanied by suitable safety measures, e.g. protective devices, markings, warning.

The types of machinery that fall into this category are:

  • Power Presses
  • Hydraulic Presses
  • Guillotines
